Abracadabra Guitar Lesson - Steve Miller Band
In this easy little video guitar lesson, I will show you how to play the No.1 smash hit "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band. This clever tune uses a simple I-IV-V chord progression in a very catchy almost poppy style. The main guitar riff you will learn in this Abracadabra guitar lesson is very simple and easily approachable by the beginner level guitarist. It is pretty much the same riff taken across a basic I-IV-V progression. A simple as this is, it is extremely effective and helps give the song a lot of movement. The intro of "Abracadabra" introduces this riff over just one chord along with a quick little power chord riff. The main riff enters when the verse vocals begin. This same riff is played during the chorus as well along with a cool Hendrixy E7#9 chord. I skip the guitar solo since it is pretty much studio effects and guitar overdubs. It would be impossible to recreate it with one standard guitar. Steve Miller simply improvises at this part of the song live. After the solo we have a cool extended chord sequence that creates sort of a musical interlude. All of these chords have an open A string in the bass with simple triads on string set 2-4. Even though the chord forms here remain the same much of the time, it may take a few times of viewing this section of the lesson to memorize all the frets the chords occur on. I round out the lesson with a cool little guitar lick that occurs just after the interlude.
