Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs (ASL?, Guitar, Ukulele, Piano, & More)

Todays song is Right Where It Belongs by Nine Inch Nails. NIN formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988. NIN was fundamentally a solo project. For nearly 30 years, Trent Reznor was the band's sole official member, primary songwriter, and creative director, assembling live backing musicians only for tours. In 2016, long-time collaborator Atticus Ross officially joined the band as its only other permanent member.

Fun fact about how the band got their name. Despite decades of wild fan theories, Trent Reznor has repeatedly stated that "Nine Inch Nails" was not chosen for any literal or deep religious meaning. While fans speculated it referenced the nine-inch spikes used in Jesus's crucifixion or Freddy Krueger's fingernails, Reznor picked it purely because it abbreviated easily into "NIN", looked incredibly clean and striking in print, and managed to pass a "two-week test" of not sounding completely stupid to him the next morning.

The song was first made available to the public when the studio album With Teeth dropped on May 3, 2005. The track is a haunting, existential ballad that dives deep into solipsism—the philosophical idea that only one's own mind is sure to exist. Trent Reznor wrestles with severe dissociation, questioning whether the entire reality, environment, and physical world surrounding him is just an artificial, calculated illusion ("What if everything around you isn't quite as it seems? / What if all the world you think you know is an elaborate dream?").

I absolutely love this song. So let's learn this one together. I'm still searching for an ASL cover - Can you make one?  For now lets start learning this song on Guitar, Ukulele and Piano. Plus check out the bonus covers. Let's get in to it.
