Todays song is How's it going to be by Third Eye Blind. The Band was formed in San Francisco, California in 1993 by singer-songwriter Stephan Jenkins and guitarist Kevin Cadogan. They spent years grinding in the local indie scene before signing one of the largest recording contracts for an unsigned artist with Elektra Records in 1996. The ultimate strength of Third Eye Blind was their unique ability to mask deeply dark, heavy themes behind bright, infectious radio hooks. While "How's It Going to Be" is a melancholic ballad, other hits from the same album tackled severe drug addiction ("Semi-Charmed Life") and suicide prevention ("Jumper").
This song was released to radio as a promotional single on October 20, 1997. It served as the blockbusting third single from Third Eye Blind's self titled debut album, that had originally dropped earlier that year on April 8, 1997. Frontman Stephan Jenkins has stated that the track is not just about a standard breakup, but specifically about the brutal trauma of watching a deep romantic relationship dissolve into absolute strangers. It centers on the painful realization that someone who once knew your deepest secrets will eventually become a mere acquaintance.

Anyway, here’s my ASL cover of “How’s It Going To Be?” I sought help from five of my d/Deaf/interpreter friends for how to translate one single line.. and received five different answers :-P So needless to say, I was feeling pretty discouraged until JJ told me that ASL has no rules for this type of thing--music in the deaf community is almost entirely dependent upon personal expression.
