Just hours ago, Yung Lean and Gener8ion made their explosive US television debut at the VMAs. Despite its massive viral success and delivering one of the most talked-about live sets of the evening, "STORM" didn't win any awards. They did completely recreating the iconic, viral boarding school steps routine live on stage alongside a massive, high-energy dance crew. In my opinion the stole the show.
Gener8ion is the multimedia conceptual project of French electronic producer and DJ Benoit Heitz, widely known as Surkin, who originally rose to prominence as a key player in the late-2000s "French Touch 2.0" electronic scene alongside legendary acts like Daft Punk and Justice. He launched Gener8ion as a platform to blend futuristic club beats with massive, high-concept visual arts, achieving his first major breakthrough under this alias with the 2015 anthem "The New International Sound Pt. II," which featured a legendary collaboration with M.I.A. For Gener8ion's debut studio album, Love & Tears (released in June 2026), Surkin expanded on this vision by teaming up closely with renowned director Romain Gavras to build cohesive visual universes for the music.
Yung Lean (Jonatan Leandoer Håstad) is an influential Swedish rapper, singer, and contemporary artist who initially rose to internet fame in 2013 as the teenage pioneer of the "cloud rap" subgenre with his Stockholm-based Sad Boys collective and the viral hit "Ginseng Strip 2002". Over the past decade, he has evolved from a nostalgic, internet-era curio into a highly respected, chameleonic force across the global underground music and fashion scenes, collaborating with heavyweights like Travis Scott and Charli XCX. Beyond his signature melancholic rap delivery, Lean has aggressively expanded his creative horizon into the contemporary art world, opening his first major international fine art exhibition, Collected Works 2016–2026, in Stockholm, while continuing to secure his mainstream cultural footprint by contributing the standout track "That's It" alongside Metro Boomin and Future to the highly anticipated GTA VI: The Album.
This song was released on April 24, 2026, it serves as the lead single for Gener8ion's studio album Love & Tears. Set in a dystopian British boys' boarding school in the year 2034, the film operates in a world entirely devoid of adult authority. Yung Lean stars as a brooding, magnetic school bully and ringleader who rules over the students through intimidation and raw presence. The society of students establishes its own hierarchy through dangerous dares, chaotic brawls, and institutional rebellion
The music video was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Romain Gavras, who is known for his visceral, era-defining videos for M.I.A. and Justice—and features striking, hypnotic choreography by Damien Jalet. Jalet's routines utilize aggressive, synchronized, locker-room-style movements on the school steps that turn the ensemble of suited schoolboys into a singular, heaving wave of humanity.
