Stone Temple Pilots - Creep (ASL?, Guitar, Ukulele, Piano, & More)

Todays song is Creep by Stone Temple Pilots. STP formed in San Diego, California in 1989. The classic, definitive lineup consisted of Scott Weiland (vocals), brothers Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums). They became one of the most commercially successful grunge and alternative rock juggernauts of the 1990s.

When the band first formed, they initially gigged under the names Swing and Mighty Joe Young. After a blues artist threatened legal action over the latter name, they needed a replacement fast. As kids, the band members had been massive fans of the STP Motor Oil brand, famous for its patriotic red, white, and blue oval logo decals. Realizing they could get these automotive promotional stickers completely free at local gas stations, they realized that if they chose a name with the acronym "STP," they could use the oil decals as free promotional band merchandise.

This song was released to the public on September 29, 1992, as a standout track on Stone Temple Pilots' multi-platinum debut studio album, Core. It was then pushed to radio stations as the album's third and final commercial single on November 1, 1993, solidifying the band's massive presence in the 1990s alternative rock landscape. Written primarily by vocalist Scott Weiland and bassist Robert DeLeo, "Creep" is a slow-burning, melancholic grunge ballad. Weiland explicitly stated in a 2014 interview that the song explores the suffocating anxiety of youth apathy. It captures the exact feeling of being a young person trapped in the middle of a transition—no longer quite a kid, but not yet fully a young man—wrestling with deep self-doubt, second-guessing yourself, and feeling like an outcast who doesn't fit in.

This song is one of my favorites and I must learn it. I'm still searching for an ASL cover - Can you make one? For now lets start learning this song on Guitar, Ukulele and Piano. Plus check out the bonus covers. Let's get in to it.
