10 Easy Green Day Songs from Lee John Blackmore

The band Green Day originally formed in 1987 under the name Sweet Children. As they began grinding in the California punk scene, they ran into a practical problem: their name was constantly being confused with another popular local Bay Area punk band called Sweet Baby. Realizing they needed a distinct identity to stand out, they decided a rebrand was necessary. The members chose "Green Day" due to their fondness for cannabis. In the San Francisco Bay Area where they grew up, a "green day" was a local slang phrase for spending an entire day doing absolutely nothing but sitting around and smoking marijuana.
