Robben Ford - Nothing to Nobody (ASL?, Guitar, Ukulele?, Piano?, & More)

Todays song is Nothing To Nobody by Robben Ford. Born into a musical family in Woodlake, California, Robben Ford was raised on an eclectic diet of country, gospel, and soul before picking up the saxophone at age ten and teaching himself guitar at thirteen after discovering the electric blues of Mike Bloomfield. He launched his professional career at just eighteen when he and his brothers formed the Charles Ford Blues Band, immediately landing a gig backing blues harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite. Ford’s unique ability to blend the raw emotion of traditional Chicago blues with complex jazz harmonics quickly made him a highly sought-after collaborator, leading to high-profile stints touring and recording with jazz icon Miles Davis, folk pioneer Joni Mitchell, former Beatle George Harrison, and rock icons Kiss. Over his prolific six-decade career, Ford co-founded the influential jazz-fusion group the Yellowjackets, was named one of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century" by Musician magazine, and earned five Grammy Award nominations for his virtuosic solo albums

This song was officially released on April 23, 1993, as a standout track on the critically acclaimed studio album Mystic Mile. Right before recording Mystic Mile, Robben Ford had been spending his time playing in vastly different musical worlds. He spent the late 1980s touring as the lead guitarist for jazz icon Miles Davis and recording tracks for pop-rock royalty like George Harrison and Joni Mitchell. Ford formed The Blue Line and recorded "Nothing to Nobody" as a conscious decision to strip away the slick commercial pop production of the era and return to his roots of raw, improvisational trio blues.

Guitar purists heavily study the recording of "Nothing to Nobody" for its legendary guitar tone. Ford achieved his signature smooth, singing sustain on the track by plugging his guitar directly into a custom Dumble Overdrive Special amplifier. Built by the eccentric and reclusive electronic genius Alexander "Howard" Dumble, these amplifiers are considered the ultimate "holy grail" of the guitar world, with surviving units frequently selling to collectors for over $100,000.

I got to see Robben Ford play at the Catalina Club in Los Angeles about 10 years ago. Robben Ford is so talented and amazing to watch live. I was really nervous all night and was worried that he might not sign my guitar after the show, but he did and I'm still stoked about that!

So let's learn this one together on Guitar, and Base Guitar. I'm still searching for an ASL cover, Ukulele and Piano lessons for this song - Can you make one? Let's get in to it.
