Echosmith – Cool Kids (ASL, Guitar, Ukulele, Piano, & More)

Todays song is Cool Kids by Echosmith. The name "Echosmith" wasn't just created because it sounded catchy. The siblings chose it as a literal mashup of two of their biggest musical influences that their father introduced them to as kids: the iconic 1980s British post-punk and new-wave bands Echo & the Bunnymen and The Smiths. The band formed in Chino, California, in 2009, Echosmith is an American indie-pop band composed of the Sierota siblings—Sydney, Noah, and Graham—who skyrocketed to international fame as teenagers with their 2013 breakthrough anthem "Cool Kids."

This song was released on May 31, 2013, as the lead single from their debut studio album, Talking Dreams. It became a massive sleeper hit, dominating global airplay throughout 2014 and peaking at number 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Despite becoming a quadruple-platinum global smash that defined the band's career, "Cool Kids" was nearly left off the album completely. The band had essentially finished Talking Dreams when they decided to do one last midnight writing session with their co-writers. They penned the track in a sudden burst of inspiration, realizing its message—that the coolest thing you can actually be is yourself—was too important to leave behind.

So let's learn this one together, the ASL version and on Guitar, Ukulele, and Piano. Plus check out the bonus covers. Let's get in to it.
