Todays song is Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley was a revolutionary American singer and actor who is universally celebrated as the "King of Rock and Roll". Emerging in the mid-1950s, his electrifying vocals, uninhibited stage movements, and boundary-pushing fusion of musical styles completely reshaped global youth culture and turned him into one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century.

This song was originally recorded on September 5, 1957, and released on October 15, 1957, on the landmark Elvis' Christmas Album. Due to its massive popularity, RCA Victor finally issued it as a standalone commercial single on November 9, 1964. Elvis Presley originally did not want to record the song at all, as he considered it a generic, old-school country track. When the record label forced his hand, Elvis turned to his band and told them to make it as ridiculous and over-the-top as possible so the label would reject it. He explicitly asked backing singer Millie Kirkham to sing a goofy, repetitive vocal loop to ruin the take. Paradoxically, the band's loose, heavily stylized improvisation created an absolute masterpiece that the label fell in love with, cementing it as a permanent classic against Elvis's initial wishes.

Much like other golden-age Christmas tracks, "Blue Christmas" achieved its ultimate American chart success decades after its release thanks to the modern streaming era. The song finally made its very first historic entry into the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 in 2019, and ultimately climbed all the way to Number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, proving that the King's holiday magic remains completely timeless.
