Sia - Chandelier (ASL, Guitar, Ukulele, Piano, & More)

Todays song is Chandelier by Sia. Born Sia Kate Isobelle Furler to a highly artistic, bohemian household in Adelaide, South Australia, the pop visionary professionally known simply by her legal first name—an Old Norse moniker meaning "victory"—was practically destined for a life in music. Growing up with a blues musician father, an art lecturer mother, and an uncle who fronted the iconic 1980s band Men at Work, she spent her youth mimicking vocal legends like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder in her living room.

Her professional journey began completely by accident in the mid-1990s when a local DJ scouted her at an Italian karaoke bar during a gap year, leading to a gig with an acid-jazz group back home called Crisp. After moving to London to follow a boyfriend—who tragically died in a car accident before her arrival—she stayed in the UK to work as a background vocalist until the British electronic duo Zero 7 discovered her raw talent and hired her as their primary touring and studio singer, officially launching her onto the international indie music radar.

This song was released as the lead single from her sixth studio album, 1000 Forms of Fear, on March 17, 2014. Sia originally wrote the track intending to pitch it to either Rihanna or Beyoncé. However, after she finished cutting the rough vocal demo, she realized the lyrics—which chronicle a desperate, party-girl lifestyle masking deep psychological pain and alcoholism—were too intensely personal to give away. She decided to keep it for herself, marking her massive transition from a behind-the-scenes pop songwriter into a frontline global pop superstar.

The song's multi-billion-view music video features then-11-year-old Maddie Ziegler performing an intense, erratic contemporary dance routine inside a bleak apartment. The video's immense success completely overwhelmed Sia's severe social anxiety. To protect her privacy while promoting the song live, she adopted her iconic, face-covering blonde-and-black oversized wig, letting Ziegler essentially serve as her public visual avatar on stage.

So let's learn this one together, the ASL version and on Guitar, Ukulele, and Piano. Plus check out the bonus covers. Let's get in to it.

Since 2014, I've been wanting to make sign language covers. I kept this wig in my closet for four years and I finally decided to film a cover. Powerful song! Enjoy my interpretation. Thanks for watching! Feel free to correct any mistakes. I mistakenly signed feel (two times) near the chest. It should be done one time and feelings should be two times. Mistakes that I’ve made in videos should be improved in my later videos. Hopefully, you’ll see me correct the sign in my “...Baby one more time” and “Never Be the Same.” Insta: https://www.instagram.com/aprilschan Blog: http://lirpadiy.blogspot.com/
