Todays song is Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John. Peter Bjorn and John (often abbreviated as PB&J) is an indie pop-rock band formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1999. True to the ultimate literal approach, the group named themselves entirely after the first names of its three members: Peter Morén (vocals/guitar), Björn Yttling (bass/keyboards), and John Eriksson (drums). Because the band deliberately chose to omit a comma after "Peter" in their official marquee billing, it sparked years of grammar confusion among international fans who initially assumed the act was a duo consisting of a guy named "Peter Bjorn" and a guy named "John".
This song was released as a single on August 7, 2006. The track served as the breakthrough lead single for Peter Bjorn and John's third studio album, Writer's Block. Despite its bright instrumentation and animated music video featuring children, the song is not an innocent adolescent track. Written by the band as they were hitting their late 20s, it is told from the perspective of two cynical individuals who have been burned out by a string of failed relationships. To make the duet format work, the band recruited guest vocalist Victoria Bergsman, who was the lead singer of the Swedish indie group The Concretes. Her deadpan, dream-like vocal delivery acted as the perfect emotional counterweight to Peter's warmer, Beatles-esque singing style.
So let's learn this one together, the ASL version and on Guitar, Ukulele, and Piano. Plus check out the bonus covers. Let's get in to it.
