Todays song is 123456 by Fitz And The Tantrums. The band’s name was born out of a mix of a nickname and a humorous studio realization. Frontman and founder Michael Fitzpatrick had always been known simply as "Fitz". In 2008, after purchasing a vintage church organ, he sat down and wrote his first song in a single night. Realizing he needed a full band to bring his soulful vision to life, he gathered an array of talented musicians. Because their high-energy, wild live performances felt like an explosion of danceable emotion, Fitz jokingly referred to the group's chaotic chemistry as throwing "Tantrums"—ultimately combining the two ideas into Fitz and the Tantrums.

For their first two studio albums, Pickin' Up the Pieces and More Than Just a Dream, the band operated under a strict creative constraint: absolutely no electric guitars allowed. Instead, they relied completely on bass, drums, keyboards, a roaring saxophone, and the dual vocals of Fitz and Noelle Scaggs to create their signature heavy, retro-soul wall of sound.

This song was released on March 20, 2019, as the lead single from their fourth studio album, All the Feels. While the upbeat track peaked at number 33 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Before writing the song, Michael Fitzpatrick spent a grueling year writing nearly 80 songs for the album, finding himself bogged down by severe writer's block, self-doubt, and the pressure of matching their 2016 multi-platinum hit "HandClap". When he sat down with co-writers K.Flay and Tommy English, the music for "123456" poured out in just an hour. Fitz credits the song's carefree energy with literally pulling him out of his dark artistic funk.

The bouncy, chanting kids' choir that shouts the track's main countdown hook isn't a random group of studio session singers. The band actually brought their own children and their friends into the recording studio to sing the lines, adding a deeply personal family layer to the track's joyous, carefree vibe.
